Sandra Chapman B.A. (Psychology), LL.B., Master of Psychotherapy & Spirituality-Art Therapy Intern Counsellor

Within a safe and compassionate environment, Sandra will support you in navigating your unique transitions and moving in the direction you desire by gaining insight into your situation and taking important steps toward leading a meaningful life. Sandra has a specialization in grief work.

Sandra employs both art therapy and traditional talk therapy from an existential, person-centred framework. Underlying this approach is her belief that individuals have vast resources to access their own truth through deep dialogue with their inner voice.

Sandra views life as a series of transitions that may be confusing, disorienting, and sometimes devastating. Changes such as loss of relationship through relocation, divorce, separation, and death; children leaving the “nest”; loss of employment; changes due to illness and/or aging; or realizing a part of the self has been lost due to life decisions and experiences, among others, can challenge the core of who we are. Questions such as “Why me?” and “What now?” may arise. Sandra will assist you in navigating such transitions.

Sandra hold a unique certification in supporting and counselling clients dealing with current or unresolved grief.

Sandra offers evening and weekend appointments, in addition to daytime sessions.

Sandra’s undergraduate studies include a Bachelor of Arts degree (Psychology) from the University of Manitoba, and a Bachelor of Laws degree from Osgoode Hall Law School, Ontario.

In her practice as a family law lawyer,Sandra gained significant experience in conflict resolution, including negotiation and mediation, as she assisted clients in navigating the legal system during an emotionally stressful and challenging time in their lives. With compassion and collaboration, Sandra helped clients identify goals, understand motivations, and take steps to bring their legal situation to a conclusion.

While still practicing law, and while facing a significant life challenge, Sandra began to explore art through the medium of painting. She eventually came to recognize art-making was playing a powerful role in her mental, physical and spiritual well-being. Finding inspiration from her experience, Sandra embraced painting as her career. After 20 years of painting, Sandra sought a deeper understanding of the process by which art-making can promote mental, physical, and spiritual well-being and healing.

She enrolled in the Master of Psychotherapy & Spirituality – Art Therapy, at St. Stephen’s College at the University of Alberta Campus and is now focusing on final projects and her internship in Kelowna with Safe & Sound Therapeutics.
